Miei adorati lettori Rosa Shokking,

Da New York e’ tutto, gente!!
My beloved Rosa Shokking people,
“Eden” brings us in the house of a couple, Billy and Breda, right before their tenth anniversary. Eileen Walsh portrays beautifully a woman in love with her husband, but disappointed in the relationship, that struggles to re-build the intimacy and create the passion her husband had for her. A curiosity: at the screening the director Declan Recks told the audience that in the theater version Breda’s role has been played for years by Eileen Walsh older sister.
“My Marlon and Brando” is based on a true story and it’s a truly touching movie. Aica, a Turkish actress, meets Hama Ali, a Kurdish-Iraqi actor, on a set and falls in love with him. Once they both go back to their countries they keep in touch through video letters. As soon ad the war starts in Iraq Aica decides to leave Istanbul for a dangerous journey through Turkey and Iran to reunite herself with her love. The movie is almost a documentary: the main roles are played by the actual protagonists of the story and Aica wrote the screenplay with the motivation of funding her travel to northern Iraq.
The winning movie, “Let the right one in”, is also a beautiful love story. The protagonists are two 12-year old kids, Eli and Oskar, that meet at night in a playground and flirt shyly surrounded by spotless snow. They count on each other to deal with their troubled situations: Oskar is the target of a group of bullies and is the only son of divorced parents and Eli is a vampire. Eli’s supernatural condition fits perfectly in the realistic narrative of the story and even if the movie is proud to be a horror, it tends to focus on the tenderness of first kisses.
The Cadillac Audience Choice Award has been assigned to the documentary “War Child” shot on the life of Emmanuel Jal, a former Sudanese child soldier that has become a very well known rapper.
Well, my New York mission has been accomplished. That’s all folks!!
